The Farm
Christmas Trees
The Adirondacks are home to the Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea)
and therefore the main crop. In addition to Balsam Fir, the Moody's
have planted Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri) . Both species of fir are the
most desired Christmas trees in the country. The Fraser Fir is noted
for great needle retention while the Balsam is the most fragrant and
therefore used in our pillows and sachets. All trees grown at the Moody
Tree Farm are planted for the specific purpose of one day becoming YOUR
Christmas tree, Christmas trees are a renewable, sustainable crop.
Seedlings are planted each Spring in transplant beds, then when mature
enough planted in the field. Our trees are organically fertilized and
never treated with harmful chemicals. The trees are hand trimmed each
year to keep their natural conical shape. It takes nine to ten years in
the field to produce a 6-7 foot Christmas tree.
Farm Animals:
In addition to Christmas trees, the Moody's raise Texas Longhorne
cattle, pigs, goats and American Quarter Horses. The well cared for
animals bring great joy to the local residents and visitors to the farm.
Various groups and individuals will stop by just to see the animals!
The Moody's also have three Golden Retrievers that roam the farm keeping
everything in control. They may bark when you pull in to let staff
know you are there, but they are very friendly.
